Sifu Matthew J. Nielsen

Sifu Matthew J. Nielsen is a first-degree black belt in Tiek Soo Chang Ch'uan Fa, the Chief Instructor of the Tioga Chinese Boxing Center, and has been training in martial arts for 30 years. It all began when he was walking home from school at the ripe old age of 9 when he was attacked and assaulted by six high school students for being the wrong color and living in and walking through the wrong neighborhood to get home. From that moment on, he began to seek anyone and anything that would help him to learn how to "beat someone up." Young Matthew began his instruction by his neighbor Ken, who held a brown belt in Karate.  For the next several years he became a sponge, learning everything he could from anyone that would teach him, and studying martial arts movies as well as reading books such as "The Art of War" and "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do." As Matthew began training, he learned that fighting someone is the last resort and that "beating people up" should never be the goal of a martial artist.

Matthew was accepted to Rancho High School's Aerospace Engineering Magnet school in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was here that he joined the Air Force JROTC program and met his first Chinese Instructor  Sifu Frank Yee and began learning Wing Chun as taught to Sifu Frank by his father at the age of 5.  At 17, Sifu Nielsen joined the Nevada Army National Guard and upon returning home to Henderson, met his instructor at the Black Dragon Society, Sifu Colin Hubbard.  Under Sifu Hubbard's instruction, he reached the rank of Red Belt in Tiek Soo Chang and won many tournaments including sparring events in the Nevada, California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah State Championships. In 2009 with the Taos Chinese Boxing Center located in Taos, NM, Sifu Matthew won the USKA National Championships and has even fought in Mexico.

Sifu Matthew received his black belt in Tiek Soo Chang Ch'uan Fa under Master William C. Roy in 2013 and lived his dream of returning to Las Vegas, Nevada in order to re-open the Las Vegas Chinese Boxing Center where he produced some of the finest students an instructor could have.

In February 2017, Sifu Matthew was appointed by Master William C. Roy to the position of Regional Administrative Director for the American Tiek Soo Chang Association and was appointed to be the World Representative of the Roy Branch of the Lee Hombu of Dong Soo Chang Ch'uan Fa. After attending law school in Atlanta, Sifu Matthew has returned to Texas.

Currently, Sifu Matthew is in Tioga, TX where he teaches by appointment at his residence and can also be scheduled for group and corporate events. He trains players in the NFL and NBA privately.
